Prof. Jude Njoku, the former Vice Chancellor (VC), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has called for improvement of the teaching and learning facilities in the nation’s universities.
Njoku made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia on Friday, saying that the measure would help to ensure quality service delivery in the institutions.
He regretted that the poor state of infrastructure in the universities was affecting their performance in the delivery of quality education.
Njoku, who was VC in FUTO between 2000 and 2005, said that the development largely contributed to the poor quality of graduates currently being churned out by the universities.
“I cannot say that I’m dissatisfied with the performance of our professors. There are differentials in people’s abilities.
“Some professors are extremely brilliant, some are not too brilliant.
“The problem is that sometimes they do not have the facilities to function effectively, but we will continue to ask for improvement in the facilities,’’ he said.
