Nasarawa State Government on Tuesday in Lafia, commenced training of its permanent secretaries on Information Communications Technology (ICT) to enhance e-governance.
Mr Abari Aboki, the state’s Head of Civil Service said the training was in conformity with Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s determination to ensure that the workforce was ICT compliant for efficient service delivery.
Aboki noted that the permanent secretaries were the ‘engine room’ of government activities and should be well-equipped in ICT to effectively drive the process.
He maintained that e-governance was the trend globally and Nasarawa State could not be an exception, hence the need for all to key in.
According to him, ICT will help to cut loss of man hours and other bureaucracies associated with governance.
“The governor believes that if all of us as permanent secretaries key into ICT, the delays and bureaucracies can be reduced such that we can send memos and get responses online, thereby ensuring faster service delivery,” Aboki added.
He, therefore, urged the participants to give attention to the training considering the personal and administrative benefits.
The permanent secretary said that the state government had recently organised similar workshop for workers at the state and local government levels.
Mr Ibrahim Shehu, Director General of the state’s Bureau for Information Communication Technology (BICT) said the training would expose the permanent secretaries to various ICT modules that would facilitate their work.
According to Shehu, the training will feature paper presentation and practical applications of some of the ICT modules.
Ms Abigail Waya, Permanent Secretary in the office of the head of service, commended the state government for the initiative.
Waya pointed out that ICT had turned the world around and made life a lot easier.
She expressed optimism that the training would make the participant more productive and governance more effective.
